Lead Trainer

B4C Lead Trainers are responsible for the effective implementation and coordination of the Breathe For Change 200-hour curriculum from start to finish. Lead Trainers are the heads of our regional trainings and are ultimately responsible for the daily management of their training team, including Production Leads, Content Trainers, Apprentices, Support Trainers, and Mental Health Consultants. Each Lead Trainer is responsible for teaching the B4C Workshops and at least one content area, as well as managing smooth transitions and the timely execution of our daily agendas.

Lead Trainers are responsible for collaborating with their Co-Lead Trainer to prepare, plan, and execute the B4C workshops, as well as share management responsibilities throughout the day including timely transitions, observing and feedbacking the facilitation of content sessions, on-site coaching of the training team, addressing all challenges and conflicts in a timely and appropriate manner, as well as communicating training progress to our Director of Trainings.

Lead Trainer Roles & Minimum Qualifications: 

Lead Trainer A - Trainer Development

  • E-RYT 200 or E-RYT 500
  • Must have participated in at least 1 B4C training in another relevant training role (Lead Trainer or Content Trainer)
  • Must meet Content Trainer qualifications:
    • Content Trainer must hold a relevant degree, certification or substantial education in the subject that he or she will teach, which must be related to a Yoga Alliance® Educational Category, plus a minimum of 500 hours of teaching experience in that subject and/or the equivalent of two years of relevant experience in that subject area, as demonstrated by either documentation or an attestation by the Director of Talent
  • Preferred: prior training and experience facilitating courageous conversations about social justice, equity, and diversity.

Lead Trainer B - Production Management

  • RYT-200
  • Must have participated in at least 1 B4C training in another relevant training role (Content Trainer, Content Apprentice, or Production Lead)
  • Must meet Content Apprentice and Production Lead qualifications
    • Apprentices must have participated in a Breathe For Change training as a Support Trainer OR must hold a relevant degree, certification or substantial education in the subject that he or she will apprentice in, plus a minimum of 200 hours of teaching experience in that subject and/or the equivalent of one year of relevant experience in that subject area, as demonstrated by either documentation or an attestation by the Director of Talent
  • Preferred: prior training and experience facilitating courageous conversations about social justice, equity, and diversity.

Lead Trainers...

  • Lead with Love by embodying the 12 Breathe For Change values (Beginnings, Creativity, Gratitude, Presence, Compassion, Communication, Inclusion, Collaboration, Social Justice, Harmony, Playfulness, Inspiration).
  • Are gifted teachers and proficient in Breathe For Change Pedagogical Practices.
  • Strike a balance between depth and lightness in their presence and facilitation.
  • Have a strong awareness of time and are able to effectively facilitate vulnerable experiences while maintaining structure.
  • Are familiar with the B4C curriculum as a whole and are are able to provide both content and context in any given subject area (B4C workshops, Meditation, Philosophy, Anatomy, Asana, SEL*F, mentorship) as well as in the ChangeMaker program and the greater B4C movement.
  • Are warriors for social justice and have both training in and deep commitment to diversity and inclusive practices.
  • Create both formal and informal space for recognition and appreciation throughout the training day.
  • Hold safe space by setting clear community expectations and boundaries, using trauma informed practices, and establishing trust and rapport with all trainees.
  • Set sacred space by collaborating with Production Leads and supporting training team roles and responsibilities.

Key Roles & responsibilities

Pre-Training

  • Plan and prepare for role as Lead Trainer
  • Plan and prepare B4C workshops with Co-Lead Trainer
  • Plan and prepare for content area sessions
  • Participate in and complete online trainer orientation modules
  • Communicate and build team spirit via basecamp
  • Co-facilitate and participate in training team orientation

Lead Trainer A (Trainer Development)

  • Familiarize yourself with the B4C trainer feedback rubric.
  • Embody B4C LEADERSHIP skills and core values, and understand how they connect to the training content and delivery of that content.
  • Use self-reflection form for self and share with co-Lead Trainer.
  • Create observation and feedback schedule (to provide feedback at least 1x per weekend via email and 2x per training 1:1 to each content trainer).
  • Create folder (ex: DC_Fall2017_TrainerFeedback) with separate docs for each member of training team with template on top.
  • Check in with Trainer Development team about insights on trainers/apprentices: areas of strength/vision for their growth.
  • Present yourself to training team as the point person for all non-logistics related trainer support.
  • Collaborate with Lead Trainer Apprentices to prepare and discuss all B4C Workshops.
  • Schedule dates for Lead Trainer Apprentices to teach B4C Workshops and receive feedback.

Lead trainer b (Production Management)

  • Familiarize yourself with B4C operations and production information via Basecamp and internal trainer website.
  • Familiarize yourself with pre-training Mind*Body*Soul Work.
  • Embody B4C LEADERSHIP and core values, and understand how they connect to the smooth operation of a B4C training.
  • Use self-reflection form for self and share with co-Lead Trainer
  • Create Morning Team schedule for yoga teacher, assistants, and Production Party with support of Production Lead.
  • Create Community Class Teaching Schedule with support of your Production Lead.
  • Create observation and feedback schedule (to provide feedback at least 1x per weekend via email and 2x per training 1:1 with your Production Lead).
  • Check in with Trainer Development team about insights on Production Lead/apprentices: areas of strength / vision for their growth.
  • Present yourself to training team as the point person for all logistics related trainer support.

During Training 

Co-Lead Trainers collaborate to equitably delegate and execute on the following responsibilities:

  • Lead morning leadership huddles and evening team meetings.
  • Teach at least two morning yoga classes and co-teach the closing day yoga class.
  • Co-lead B4C Workshops.
  • Co-lead with at least 1 Lead Trainer Apprentice at least 1 time during training.
  • Lead at least one additional content area.
  • Ensure that at least one Lead Trainer is present during all content sessions.
  • Conduct both consistent and as needed check-ins and collaborate with Mental Health Consultant.
  • Co-facilitate a mentor group.
  • Maintain Sacred Space / Saucha (cleanliness) support.
  • Lead closing circle each evening.
  • Analyze trainee and trainer survey data and communicate clear action steps to your training team.
  • Participate in Content Team Meetings for Lead Trainers and relevant content area(s).
  • Provide ongoing trainer communication via Basecamp.
  • Collaborate on trainee emails (bi-weekly preview and review emails during school year trainings and as need during intensive trainings).
  • Participate in on-going communication and feedbacking with Director of Trainings on the status of the training.
  • Complete during-training trainer surveys, and hold team members accountable for doing the same.
  • Lead the B4C training graduation celebration.
  • Support the clean-up and close out of your training.
